Born the son of a preacherman in Tama, Iowa, 1956. I learned most of my basics at Harry A. Burke High School in Omaha, Nebraska from a large bald man with a fumanchu mustache and a calm exterior that I always thought hid much strength and a fiery personality. His name was/is L. Graham Wood. No one has ever taught me more than he...
I spent four years at the University of Nebraska, specializing in ceramics and watercolor. Thomas Sheffield, a small quiet man, taught me many, many things about art and the world in general from a table at Duffy's Tavern, where our class met on Thursdays to discuss melting points of metals and digging in the earth.
I also learned a great deal about color and texture and building a piece of art from a man I didn't like very much, Gayle Butt. Richard Tricky taught me experimentation and discipline. Lynn Soloway taught me design and color appreciation and probably had the biggest effect on my 2D work.
I spent two more years learning how to be a professional photographer and obtaining an Associate's Degree from the New York Institute of Photography.
I have been involved in five two man shows with my best friend and fellow artist R.A.Humpal, at the Antiquarium Gallery in Omaha, Nebraska, and another at the Noyes Gallery in Lincoln, Nebraska. Our styles mixed very well and our friendship kept us both working. I've also earned Honorable Mentions twice from the Fred Wells juried show, for my pen and ink work and computer work, at Weslyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska.
I've been sitting behind a computer for the last fifteen years trying to figure out this latest artistic tool, and taking some photos as well.
